Gynecomastia

For many men with gynecomastia, the breast simply contains fat deposits. Fat removal with liposuction is a very effective treatment for this kind of gynecomastia. We have gone beyond simple liposuction and added the SmartLipo MPX ™ when needed. This allows us to remove the fat in a much less traumatic fashion, and at the same time cause significantly greater skin shrinkage and skin tightening.

In some men, however, the breasts contain a combination of fat and glandular tissue.
Liposuction is not effective in these cases because the procedure cannot remove glandular tissue. Many surgeons treat this type of gynecomastia by making large incisions to remove the glandular tissue, often causing unsightly scarring around the areola.

Several years ago, Dr. Sherwood Baxt introduced the “scarless” male breast reduction using the micro-excisional tool. This allows Dr. Baxt to break up the hard glandular tissue and remove it through the same suction cannula used to perform liposuction. This one-hour procedure is performed in our certified surgery center on an outpatient basis, where patients are given a local or twilight anesthesia.
